Magnificent Coastal Scenery, Wineries, Relaxation, and Rejuvenation: The Promises Of Cambria, California
Travel can teach us about: self-discipline, cooperation, creativity, adventure, risk taking, relationships, tolerance, self-expression, passion, spirituality, commitment, patience, recovery and focus. In addition to these themes, being a tourist can perhaps even fill a major void in our lives.
Travel provides a window into the world and can be a defining element in the attainment of our dreams.
When we travel, simplicity should be a key goal and overwhelming complexity should be avoided. And this is exactly what visitors can achieve at a bed and breakfast inn near the Cambrian coast.
Cambria is a seaside village on the rugged California coast, off of Highway 1, located midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It is a magnificent place where tourists can explore rocky bluffs and cliffs above the Pacific with flights of birds and unbroken views to the ocean. The sound of the waves provides a continual mental massage. Cambria has everything that one could need for a relaxing stay in one of the most breathtaking settings known to man or woman.
The Cambrian coast is, in fact, an observation deck for the greatest show on earth. Whales pass by in season, elephant seals give birth to their young, hawks and osprey hover above, soaring pelicans and gulls ride the air currents along the coastline, crabs and cormorant live among the rocks, hummingbirds whiz through the flowers, and songbirds explore the grasses. In the evening there are sunsets, the moon and the stars.
Visitors enjoy taking late afternoon strolls along the coast. They can smell the salt air, feel the spray from the waves, and watch the ocean crash dramatically into rocks.
At night, tourists are amazed by the heavens as they have never seen them before. Teri McCall, owner/innkeeper of The McCall Farm B & B in Cambria shared with me: "An astronomer/hobbyist brought a telescope to look at three planets that were lined up in the sky. There were so many stars; he had a hard time finding his way throughout the universe." The sky here is a magnificent place to watch for shooting stars.
Cambria is home to the Cambria Historical Museum and is close to Hearst Castle and the Elephant Seal rookery at Piedras Blancas. Moonstone Beach, along Highway 1 has miles of coastline with long beaches. There are also hotels, galleries and restaurants to explore. Recreational activities like biking, dog walking, hiking, boogie boarding, surfing, swimming, fishing and kayaking are abundant and give tourists a flavor of Cambrian lifestyle.
Some visitors like to seek out local bed and breakfast inns which provide an intimate and romantic retreat getaway.
Some of our lifestyles involve riveting stories coupled with interweaving themes such as ambition, illness, tragedy, revenge, retribution, disappointment, self-preservation, greed, and triumph, which can mesmerize and traumatize us. The result is that our vitality and endurance sputters to a mere trickle. Many of us have very stressful lives. We are eventually led to the conclusion that feeling tired and frustrated is no longer an excuse for inaction.
Taking a getaway to a bed and breakfast location is a clear-cut prescription for dealing with anxiety in a resourceful manner. Rest, rejuvenation and relaxation are essential ingredients to the smooth running of our body, mind and spirit.
Teri McCall the innkeeper at The McCall Farm B & B, a relaxed property in a convenient location, 15 minutes from Cambria, illustrates her mastery of renewal and relaxation. "People tell us this place is like a sanctuary. It is unplugged. You can't get cell phone service. People feel like they are really getting away from the hustle and bustle of life."
It is important to look at the consequences of a stressful lifestyle. In most cases, no matter what the symptoms may be such as depression, irritability, discomfort, boredom, emotional distress, frustration, anger, helplessness, and so forth, there is often one common denominator, they cause most sufferers to lose physical energy that results in fatigue. Terry McCall explains, "We have a repeat guest. She is a lady who is a special education teacher in the gang area of Garden Grove. She comes up regularly and spends 4-5 days. She says staying here is the one thing that helps her stay sane. She is recharged so she can go back and do what makes her insane." Terry continues, "She enjoys going to wineries, and does knitting. She met a lot of people here."
Consequently, if we want to renew, restore and rejuvenate our mind, body, and spirit, we have to work hard at overcoming our stress. A getaway to the Cambria area will help us focus on how to receive the greatest amount of physical recovery and pleasure from life. At a bed and breakfast inn, the emphasis is on pampering and opportunities that make our lives joyful. Specific activities and advice emanate from local innkeepers, who have learned to positively manage a satisfying vacation. "We do encourage people to bring their dogs," admits Terry. "We recently had a visitor and their dog was in the process of dying. The lodgers wanted to visit here so their dog could come and enjoy the property."
